Melissa Pero began her career in elementary education in 2006 and joined WHPS in 2015. As Lower Elementary Division Lead, she provides instructional leadership and oversight for our TK–1st grade program, working closely with teachers on curriculum, assessment, student progress, and classroom practice.

Melissa brings particular expertise in how young children learn, with postgraduate study focused on brain research, early literacy instruction, assessment practices, and the early identification of potential learning differences. She helps teachers use research, assessment, and observation to understand how individual children are learning, recognize emerging strengths or needs, and determine what each student is ready to learn next. Melissa also provides ongoing professional development and coaching for Lower Elementary faculty, helping translate current research into thoughtful, individualized classroom practice.

Melissa holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSUN with a concentration in Earth Science & Astronomy and is a proud WHPS parent.
