Welcome to WHPS

A School Where Children Are Known, Challenged, and Happy to Be Here

From Our Head of School

Dear Prospective Families,

Seth Pozzi, Head of School at Woodland Hills Private School

Welcome to WHPS. I'm excited for you to learn more about us, but even more, I hope you'll come visit and experience our school for yourself.

One of the things we hear over and over from families is how much they appreciate the welcoming, down-to-earth “vibe” of WHPS. Children are happy here. They know their teachers, they know each other, and there's a warmth and ease to the community that can be hard to capture on a website.

But there is a great deal of intention behind what can feel so natural.

We do some things differently here. WHPS has many of the familiar structures of school, but the way we teach and set goals for each child is deeply personal. We meet children where they are, understand what they're ready for next, and help them keep moving forward, with virtually no ceiling on how far they can go.

Children also have a real voice in their own growth. They make meaningful choices, set goals, reflect on their progress, and learn to talk openly about both accomplishments and things they're still working hard to achieve.

I'm still humbled by how naturally our students do this. No two stories sound quite the same. You hear their personality, their voice, and their individual journey.

If you really want to understand what WHPS is all about, take a look at our Graduate Profile. We didn't choose these qualities because they sound nice. They are the values and competencies we intentionally develop over many years and that come into full focus by fifth grade.

And when you visit, I hope you'll kick the tires a little. Look for these qualities in the children you meet. Schools can say a lot on a website. I'm confident you'll see them in our students, right alongside each child's own personality, voice, interests, and strengths.

I hope we'll have a chance to welcome you to campus, and I look forward to meeting your family!

Warmly,
Seth Pozzi

Our Promise to You

As a student at WHPS, we promise to honor your individuality and appreciate you for exactly who you are. We believe in what you're capable of, and we want to help you discover your strengths, find your voice, and grow more fully into who you are.

In Preschool, your teachers will pay close attention to what interests and excites you, then create opportunities to explore those ideas. You'll discover the world around you, learn about yourself and others, make choices, ask lots of questions, and build curiosity we hope stays with you for life.

In Elementary School, you'll become an author, reader, mathematician, scientist, artist, musician, problem-solver, and so much more. You'll make meaningful choices, set goals, celebrate progress, and learn what to do when something is hard.

Along the way, your own strengths and interests will come into focus, and you'll develop strategies to work through the things that may be harder for you. You'll learn to make a plan, ask for help when you need it, and advocate for yourself and, just as importantly, for others. And we want you to know a world bigger than your own through experiences with different people, cultures, traditions, and ways of seeing things.

By the time you leave WHPS, we want you to know more than what you've learned. We want you to know yourself, believe in what you're capable of, and be curious about the world and your place in it.

We approach your education with the same care we would want for the children in our own families. We can't wait to see who you become.

Sincerely,
Seth Pozzi
Head of School
