Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Celebrating Diversity and Promoting Equity at WHPS

At Woodland Hills Private School, we embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion as foundational pillars of our educational philosophy. Since our establishment, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing an equitable, progressive, and joyful learning environment that honors and celebrates the unique identities of our students, families, and staff. We recognize the importance of addressing systemic racism and, at the same time, joyfully celebrating culture and fostering kindness, equity, and inclusivity at every level of our school community.

Our Dedication

  • Cultivating Equitable Curricula

We ensure that our curriculum represents diverse perspectives and provides a deep understanding of various cultures and experiences. Doing so empowers our students to appreciate and learn from diverse voices and histories. Resources are carefully selected and developmentally appropriate.

  • Engaging with Families

We foster open and meaningful dialogue with our families, inviting them to actively participate in discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion and planning for cultural celebrations and representation to broaden our students’ and our own horizons. We create opportunities for shared learning, growth, and collaboration through ongoing parent and community discussion series.

  • Creating Inclusive Spaces

We actively implement equitable practices and policies to ensure that all our students feel comfortable and safe and have a true sense of belonging. By cultivating inclusive environments, we foster a supportive community where every individual can thrive and flourish.

  • Decolonizing Learning Materials

We regularly review our library and learning materials to ensure they reflect a variety of perspectives and experiences. We aim to promote the decolonization of classrooms and libraries, expanding the narratives available to our students.

  • Anti-Bias Education

We prioritize anti-bias education and teaching about social justice.

  • Ensuring Equity in Policies and Practices

We continuously examine our school's policies and practices to ensure equitable outcomes for all students, families, and staff. We strive to create a fair and inclusive environment where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.

  • Commitment to Growth

We remain committed to listening, learning, and evolving. Each year, we challenge ourselves to improve and enhance our efforts to create an inclusive educational experience that empowers every community member.

Engagement Opportunities

  • Student Experience

We provide our students with enriching DE&I experiences as part of their educational journey. In addition to developmentally appropriate classroom discussions and lessons, students have the opportunity to engage in school-wide monthly heritage celebrations and explore topics such as women's studies and ethnic studies.

  • Faculty and Staff Professional Development

We prioritize ongoing professional development for our dedicated faculty and staff. Through programs such as Responsive Classroom and anti-bias education, we equip our staff and community with tools to create inclusive and equitable learning environments.

  • Inclusive Hiring Practices

WHPS is an equal opportunity employer that welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds. We are founded on the principles of social justice and celebrate the inclusivity of our community, embracing individuals of all races, colors, religions or non-belief, national and ethnic origins, genders, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

At Woodland Hills Private School, we are dedicated to creating an educational environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is promoted, and inclusion is embraced.
