Preschool

ps1.jpgWelcome to the preschool division of Woodland Hills Private School!  Our preschool is open to all children between two and five years of age who will benefit from a program that is committed to the well being of all children.

Our concern is for the total child and our program is designed to provide children with the opportunity to develop self-reliance, gain pride in their abilities and unique traits, maximize their creative potential, and to learn to appreciate the world around them.

The program is individualized, which allows each child to progress at his/her own pace.  It also provides for the celebration of the cultural diversity of our families and our community.

TEACHING STAFF
All of our teachers are experienced and certified in Early Childhood Education.  They

MONTHLY THEMES, PROJECTS, AND WEEKLY PLANS

ps3.jpgEach month one or more specific focus themes are introduced.  Special activities are planned around these themes.  Children oriented projects are always encouraged.  This project approachps4.jpg method helps children to explore as their interests lead them with the teachers as their facilitators.  Each week you child’s teacher will post her plans in the classroom.  Highlights will be sent home with the weekly news and the monthly newsletter.

COMPUTERS
There is a computer center in each classroom for all preschool classes.  Computers are used to reinforce reading and math readiness skills and to introduce them to the skills of our technological world.  The children are encouraged to use the equipment daily.

PROGRESS ASSESSMENTS
Your child’s progress in the listed curriculum areas is evaluated daily.  In addition frequent, informal reports from the teachers, parents will receive a written report every four months.

FIELD TRIPS
The field trip program is an enrichment program that provides children with a real world, hands on experience.  All the trips are optional.  Parents are encouraged to participate.

FACILITY
Our campuses are filled with trees and green areas.  At the Oxnard Campus there is an
ps5.jpg animal barnyard nestled right next to our 500 year old oak tree.  At the Collins Campus the children enjoy the backcountry garden.  Our preschool children have the opportunity to experience the outdoors with fun filled learning experiences ps6.jpgabout animals and nature.  There is a nature class specialist and a gardening teacher on site to guide the children as they learn about caring for animals and nature, which promotes the appreciation and concern for our environment.  A storytelling room is available for the teachers and children to enjoy story time in a unique, colorful, yet peaceful room.  An art studio is also available for the children to explore and create through the use of many art mediums.
